Why We Exist

Church of the Redeemer exists to live and proclaim Christ’s redeeming love. The Gospel – the declaration of God’s absolutely unconditional love revealed climactically in the cross and resurrection of Jesus – is our sole priority.

What To Expect

Our Approach

As part of its founding vision, Church of the Redeemer was pictured as a spiritual descendant of the ancient Anglican community at Iona Abbey. The island monastery of Iona served as a missionary outpost off the coast of Britain in the sixth century. Today we continue to use this image as we envision our common life of spiritual nourishment “on the island” of Redeemer, and our missionary activity “on the mainland” of Nashville and beyond.

The island abbey of Iona provided a safe home for Christians to worship and pray, to learn and grow as disciples of the way of Jesus, and to enjoy friendship with one another through rest and play. Redeemer seeks to embody the same patterns of life.

The abbey of Iona also served as a staging ground for missionary activity on the mainland. Members of the community forged partnerships with mainlanders for the sake of the common good, they engaged in works of mercy to express the redeeming love of God to their neighbors, and they established new church plants to serve as further outposts of the Gospel of Jesus. Church of the Redeemer seeks to embody these patterns as well.
