Parish Life

Showing forth the Gospel

There are many ways we seek to show forth God’s mercy as a community. For upcoming service projects and opportunities to participate in our mission work, keep your eyes on the weekly email and your ears open for Sunday announcements.

Below are a few works especially close to our heart at Redeemer.

In partnership with Siloam Health, teams of Redeemer parishioners are paired with local immigrant or refugee families to help orient them to our city. Siloam provides training and an easy-to-follow program to help these new neighbors adapt healthily, and we supply the relationships. To join the next team or learn more, contact Carrie Horton.

Behind the downstairs kitchen at Redeemer, we keep an emergency food pantry stocked year round. Our sister church, Family Affair Ministries, uses this storehouse to serve their community in East Nashville. And our parishioners can tap the pantry whenever they know of a neighbor in need. To learn more, contact Barbara Weigle.

Once a month during the school year, our youth participate in a service project organized by Redeemer Student Ministries, usually in collaboration with a local nonprofit. In Advent and Lent, our younger children lead us in projects ranging from a toy drive for Children’s Hospital, to creating care bags to offer our unhoused neighbors. To find out about the next student-led service project and how you can get involved, contact the church office.

Sometimes there are needs most mercifully addressed by financial assistance, and Redeemer maintains three funds restricted for these purposes: a Benevolence Fund administered confidentially by our clergy to address a broad range of needs; an Adoption Fund to subsidize costs for Redeemer families in the adoption process; and a Relief Fund to alleviate suffering in the wake of natural disasters and catastrophic losses. To request financial help or to learn more, contact Fr. Andrew DeFusco.

Worship and Pray at Redeemer

Liturgy

Worship and prayer are at the very center of our life together as a parish church, and our gathering to hear the Gospel and celebrate Holy Communion on Sundays is at the heart of our worship life.

In addition to our primary gathering on the Lord’s Day, there are a number of other prayerful spaces that we maintain as a community. Below are some ways that you can step deeper into worship at Redeemer.

These services last about 25 minutes and are streamed online for those who can’t be with us in person. We also pray Morning Prayer at 8:00am on Fridays and Saturdays, online only. The Church Year

Anchoring our worship life as a whole is the Church Year, an ancient spiritual pattern based on the story of Jesus’ incarnation, death, and resurrection. The flavor and tone of things at Redeemer varies dramatically along with the seasons: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, and the Ordinary Time of summer and fall.

This rhythm is highly visible on Sundays, but it also means our year is punctuated by a few other high Holy Days as well: Christmas Eve, The Feast of Epiphany, All Saints’ Day, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Ascension Day. We encourage everyone to join us as we draw near to God, marking time according to the Gospel.
